  • Four local breweries are teaming up (4 the Ward) to support the Old First Ward Community Center by brewing special pale ales that come with a stamp card; from Feb. 5 through March 31, completing a card triggers a $4 donation and a pint glass.  WGRZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • John Legend (a multi-platinum artist) will perform an intimate show at Shea’s Performing Arts Center on Apr. 22 for a night of songs and stories that reveal the inspiration behind his hits.  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buffalo Public Schools announced an attendance lottery to reward students for regular school attendance. Superintendent Dr. Pascal Mubenga will choose three winners — receiving $500, $300, and $200 — from 60 schools each month, with awards starting in February and funded by Say Yes Buffalo.  WBEN
  • Buffalo Schools continue to face student transportation challenges that affect daily commutes. District officials are exploring potential fixes to make rides safer & more reliable.  The Buffalo News

  • Erie County will present its lake effect snow report today, revealing how local towns have faced heavy snowfall since 1994. The report shows Hamburg, Orchard Park, and Concord have tall snow totals & frequent heavy events that have added up over the decades.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders approved crucial repairs for Buffalo Naval Park’s historic warships USS The Sullivans and USS Croaker, and crews from T&T Marine Salvage Inc. will begin removing hazardous petroleum in March as part of a $1.7M environmental effort before the vessels will be moved to dry dock in Erie.  WGRZ
  • During a meeting, residents raised concerns about poor living conditions and delayed maintenance in local housing units while Buffalo Common Council and BMHA representatives listened. The feedback underscored ongoing issues with the housing authority's upkeep.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • After a playoff loss on Saturday, Bills fans turned disappointment into generosity by donating over $75K to the Patricia Allen Fund that supports the Critical Care team at Golisano Children’s Hospital, which helps upgrade equipment and recruit top clinicians.  WGRZ
  • Erie County postponed the rabies vaccine clinic due to cold weather and rescheduled it for Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North Buffalo Community Center on Sanders Road; pet owners must re-register their pets online or by calling 716-961-6800.  WGRZ

  • Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula said Wednesday he fired head coach Sean McDermott after a playoff loss and will search for a new coach to drive the team toward a championship. He based his decision on his observations in the locker room + his drive for better results.  WBEN
