  • Buffalo City Ballet launches its 54th season with 'Art in Motion' plus the show honors Black History Month and celebrates dance and local creativity. The performance will offer the community an inspiring new outlook on art.  WGRZ
  • Daniel O’Sullivan, chosen by the Buffalo Irish Center, will serve as grand marshal for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 15 along Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo — a role that honors his family’s Irish heritage tradition.  WGRZ
  • Mayor Sean Ryan launched Buffalo’s Black History Month celebration at historic Broadway Market and underscored Black Americans’ role in shaping the city’s past. He said that Black history is inseparable from the story of Buffalo as the event unfolds today.  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buffalo State is cutting costs by phasing out its undergraduate environmental geography major and two graduate programs (conflict analysis and resolution, and higher education and student affairs administration) to help trim its deficit.  The Buffalo News

  • Buffalo and nearby areas face dangerously cold weather today after an arctic front moved in Friday night, with wind chills falling between minus 15 and minus 35 and a Cold Weather Advisory plus Extreme Cold Warning in effect until 10 a.m. while lingering lake effect snow creates slippery roads.  WBEN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Terminally ill New Yorkers will soon be able to request prescription medication to end their lives as the state legislature passed a Medical Aid in Dying Act—Gov. Hochul is expected to sign the law soon. The bill applies only to eligible state residents.  WGRZ

  • Junior Sabres are hosting a cancer awareness game & rallying local hockey players to raise funds for research in the community.  WGRZ

  • Buffalo Bandits are trying to bounce back after a heavy loss to Colorado Mammoth exposed weaknesses in goaltending and defense; forward Kyle Buchanan said the team got too comfortable while Coach John Tavares said their attention is now on the next game against Philly.  WGRZ
  • Team USA hockey players, including Buffalo Sabres’ Tage Thompson, will stay in the Olympic Village during the Winter Games in Milan, which begin Feb. 12 – the plan may change if a norovirus outbreak among Finland’s women’s hockey team intensifies.  WGRZ
