  • Family, friends and community members gathered in Amherst on Saturday, Feb. 7 to pay tribute to disability advocate Natalie Barnhard-Castrogiovanni, who passed on Jan. 9. Her legacy lives on through programs she founded that improved spinal cord injury care (a lasting tribute to her vision).  WBFO
  • Jessica and John Lottbrein welcomed quintuplets on Dec. 18 at Golisano Children’s Hospital (28 weeks preemie, about 2.5 lbs each), joining their two daughters for a family of nine. The babies have doubled their birth weight, and some remain in the NICU.  WBEN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A garage fire in Newfane on Monday (just after 11:30 a.m.) spread quickly to a nearby home, leaving both structures as total losses while fire crews safely evacuated residents and the Red Cross provided assistance.  ABC 7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • NYSEG warns customers about scammers posing as utility representatives to steal personal information using tactics like phishing+ vishing. The company stresses it will never request payment info by email, text, or in person, and advises customers to contact its service team if in doubt.  WBEN
  • With prolonged cold weather, roofing and gutter professionals have been busy removing ice from homes in South Buffalo. General Manager Steven Rott (with William C. Rott and Son) said poor insulation causes ice buildup (which can lead to water damage), urging homeowners to call a professional.  ABC 7
  • Tenants at Buffalo's Trico Building Apartments have been missing Amazon packages since Jan. 24 as parcels went to the University at Buffalo's Ellicott Complex (one resident lost 22 packages valued at over $1,000), and Amazon said it resolved a technical error while advising affected customers to contact its service.  ABC 7

  • The seventh annual Black Doll Exhibit opened Friday at the Buffalo Museum of Science, where curator Lisa Jacobs-Watson displays Black dolls across history for visitors during Black History Month.  WBFO
  • Shea's celebrates its 100th anniversary by launching guided tours that showcase the restaurant’s historic legacy and community impact at its original location. Local residents can learn about its evolution as a cherished landmark in the neighborhood.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Town officials in Evans report multiple watermain breaks affecting water service in some areas today. They plan to restore supply and manage road closures as repairs continue.  WGRZ
  • Community and faith leaders urge lawmakers to revise ticket sales rules after Ticketmaster and LiveNation's practices limit event access. Local groups (NAACP, National Action Network, and Buffalo Urban League) are pooling resources and plan to develop a strategy before reaching out to legislators.  WBFO

  • Two private projects will add 315 new apartments to Canalside—Heritage Point near Main Street will break ground in March once financing is secured, and Pennrose’s $200 million Canalside Gateway Building development on North Aud Block is slated to welcome its first residents by mid-2028.  WBEN
