BUSINESS NEWS

  • Steel Leaf Brewing Company on Hertel Ave announced it will close on Feb. 28 as its crew winds down two years of operation; the brewery plans farewell specials to thank loyal patrons for making it a hub for music, trivia, and game nights.  WGRZ
  • Raising Cane’s is preparing to open its first Western New York location near Maple Road in Buffalo. The site is under contract (if closed it will go through entitlements and permitting with construction expected to start in 2027).  WGRZ
  • Visit Buffalo released a tourism market study on Wednesday recommending a full-service 400-room Convention Center hotel near downtown. The HVS report (by a leading hospitality firm) shows that the new hotel would boost Buffalo's ability to host larger events and support local businesses.  WBEN

CRIME NEWS

  • Officials suspect an inside job caused graffiti damage at the new Bills stadium — repair work is underway with an estimated cost of over $150k, and the project is expected to resume operations within 24 to 48 hours.  WBFO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Buffalo Fashion Runway is hosting its third annual Black Carpet III event on Feb. 28 at Shea's Performing Arts Center. The event celebrates Black History Month with over two dozen designers and 100+ models showcasing art, fashion, and activism while supporting the 5/14 Memorial.  WGRZ
  • After over 40 years along the Erie Canal, Canal Fest of the Tonawandas will be held at Gratwick Park from July 19 to 26 with more rides, food, entertainment, vendors and fireworks (organizers say the new location secures the event’s future).  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buffalo Public Schools will change how they report suspension data to address unequal discipline for students of color and those with disabilities — a deal reached with the state Attorney General yesterday. New measures will give families clearer information to ensure fairer practices going forward.  WBFO

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • 7 News has created a fish fry guide based on local suggestions for Lent, which runs from Feb. 18 to Apr. 2. The guide lists top fish fry spots across Western New York for families to enjoy a traditional dinner.  ABC 7

  • Buffalo Bisons released their first wave of theme nights for the 2026 season at Sahlen Field. The schedule features new events including Wing Night on Aug. 20 plus Pajama Night on July 24, along with returning favorites like Star Wars Night and Dog Days by Tops.  WGRZ
  • Without Olympians Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin, the Sabres practiced at Harborcenter on Wednesday as they prepared for a 25-game push to break a 14-year playoff drought.
