  • A memorial service honoring longtime fireman Dan Lynch is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Gowanda Fire Hall — he served 33 years and in the US Navy, and community members will gather to remember his contributions.  WGRZ
  • Hospice launches its 40th annual bouquet sale today with 500 volunteers supporting the event that has raised over $8 million in 39 years.  WGRZ
  • The family of Nurul Amin Shah Alam held a news conference Saturday morning after he was found dead Tuesday night on Perry Street near KeyBank Center following his release from custody outside a Tim Hortons. Authorities and the Medical Examiner’s Office are reviewing his case as the family seeks answers.  WGRZ

  • A new NYSERDA memo warns Western New York homeowners that state energy mandates could raise gas & oil bills by up to $4,100 annually by 2031, sparking concerns that higher utility costs might deter potential homebuyers.  WBEN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The SPCA Serving Erie County advises residents to secure outdoor food sources and clear brush piles to deter skunk activity this spring. Experts warn that skunks, particularly females (who seek cover in unexpected spots), will roam yards at twilight, peaking around Valentine's Day and lasting through mid-March.  WBEN
  • The I BIRD NY Challenge invites residents to identify 10 bird species and earn a commemorative patch and certificate while offering prizes; DEC officials say the contest encourages all to explore state parks and diverse bird habitats. The event started Sunday and runs through Nov. 1.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Councilman Nowakowski said financing for Heritage Point is closed and construction will start soon to complete the mixed-use development in downtown. He supports proposals to convert old office space for housing to attract a middle-income community (and boost local business opportunities) along the waterfront.  WBEN

  • The Buffalo Bisons held a free Spring Training Carnival at the Powerhouse last Sunday to celebrate the upcoming season. Fans enjoyed carnival games, bounce houses and a chance for one lucky fan to throw the first pitch on Opening Day, Friday, March 27 at Sahlen Field.  WGRZ
