COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Erie County Fairway applications are open for local builders to design a mini golf hole for this year’s fair, and interested participants should submit their proposals soon (guidelines are provided in the announcement).  WGRZ
  • Buffalo residents can watch a total lunar eclipse today as the red moon appears for about 45 minutes overhead. The partial eclipse begins at 4:50 a.m. and totality occurs around 6 a.m. from great views along Lake Erie — ideal for early watchers.  WBEN
  • The 5/14 Memorial Foundation said in its Monday meeting at Apollo Media Center that it secured $1M from the state for a memorial project. The foundation will choose a construction manager on April 7 for work at Jefferson Avenue and Best Street (across from Johnny B. Wiley Stadium).  ABC 7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters extinguished a small fire at the General Mills factory on S. Michigan Avenue Monday morning. The blaze reportedly started on the 10th floor, and no injuries were reported.  WBEN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Emmanuel Kulu Jr. hosted the inaugural Sankofa Conference Buffalo last Saturday at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, celebrating Black History Month with panels, performances, and networking. He announced plans to expand the event with an Afro-Sankofa Festival on Aug. 7 at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum.  WBFO

  • Rising gas prices and high utility costs are set to affect local spending, as taxi driver Justin and resident Mindy Nowak share their concerns. Analysts predict prices will increase further following shifts in crude oil costs due to international events.  WBEN

  • Buffalo State received the 2026 Carnegie Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation and ACE earlier this year.   • Hailee Cipollina, a graduate assistant at Buffalo State School of Education, won the NASUP Emerging Leader Award at a national conference in Washington, D.C. Her award honors her strong leadership and dedication to local education programs.  Buffalo State University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • University at Buffalo plans to spend $1 billion over the next 25 years to eliminate fossil fuel use on campus — a move that will gradually transition the school to clean energy and reduce emissions.  The Buffalo News

  • Assemblyman Bill Conrad introduced legislation on Monday to amend the state refrigerant rule that critics say could cause supply shocks and higher food prices for local businesses and shoppers. Lawmakers propose aligning state guidelines with the federal schedule to help prevent equipment failures and rising costs in the community.  WBFO
