COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tonawanda officials say major mechanical upgrades will soon improve the Paddock Golf Dome on Brompton Road (following repairs after the 2022 Christmas blizzard) as planning continues with contractor bids this summer and installation set for summer 2027 while operations remain normal.  WBEN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A FedEx driver in West Seneca ignored a posted warning sign and drove into a homeowner’s lawn on Wednesday, March 11, leaving tire marks and ruts while the driver apologized and FedEx agreed to cover the repairs.  ABC 7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • GasBuddy analyst Matt McClain said diesel prices jumped 85 to 86 cents per gallon last week and could rise another 70 cents in the coming days. Local store owner Tony Ahmed warned that rising fuel costs may cause fresh produce, meat and dairy prices to increase within two to three weeks.  WGRZ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Six Flags Darien Lake is hosting a three-day hiring event today through Friday, March 13 to fill 1,500 seasonal park jobs at its Corfu park. Applicants may apply (in-person at the Human Resources Office) or online, with training planned to finish by May 15.  WBEN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buffalo Public Schools will close two elementary schools during the 2027-2028 school year after community pressure stalled the earlier plan, and CFO James Barnes said teacher layoffs that could save $7M to $8M per school may follow to help balance a $60M deficit.  ABC 7
  • Faculty and students at Buffalo State University rallied Tuesday against planned job and program cuts, voicing their concerns about changes that will affect campus operations.  The Buffalo News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Erie County Department of Health closed two Public Espresso locations in Buffalo on Washington Street (Hotel Lafayette) and Elmwood Avenue; both will remain closed for at least a week until they pass inspection.  ABC 7
  • The city will begin construction of a new roundabout at the Abbott and Potters Road intersection in South Buffalo later this month to fix long-standing road issues. The phase will include waterline, drainage, and sidewalk improvements along Abbott Road.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Thomas J. Quatroche Jr., ECMC’s president & CEO since 2015, will leave the Buffalo hospital in June to take a similar statewide role with the Healthcare Association of New York State. He started at ECMC in 2004 and drove key improvements in patient care.  WBFO
  • Thomas J. Quatroche Jr. is stepping down as ECMC CEO to take over as president and CEO of the Healthcare Association of New York State, which represents about 500 health care organizations statewide. His new role will begin soon.  The Buffalo News

  • The Bills secured tight end Dawson Knox in a new three-year deal that carries a $12 million salary for the 2026 season plus a $1.5 million roster bonus due Sunday — NBC Sports reported.  WGRZ
  • Jack Quinn scored three goals including an empty netter as the Sabres beat the Sharks 6 to 3 on Tuesday night — Jason Zucker and Beck Malenstyn also scored to help Buffalo notch its eighth straight win and narrow its long playoff drought.  WGRZ
