CULTURE NEWS

  • An exhibit at the former Buffalo State Asylum, now the Richardson Hotel, shows photographs and artifacts from the lives of institutionalized women as families push for better access to records. Two state bills will make more historical data public and help preserve these stories for future generations.  WBFO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University at Buffalo agreed on a deal with Broadview Federal Credit Union to rename UB Stadium and Alumni Arena to Broadview Stadium and Broadview Arena and the campus area between them as Broadview Village. The $31.75 million deal will fund athlete scholarships, financial education and health insurance, effective immediately.  WGRZ
  • School districts in the Buffalo Niagara region face challenges from declining student numbers. The Ken-Ton district is considering closing Holmes Elementary School while Buffalo Public Schools have ruled out closures for this school year but may consolidate schools in the future + community leaders voice concerns.  WBEN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Erie County and partners marked two years of the Community Climate Action Plan at Tifft Nature Preserve on March 11, noting solar enrollment for 2,300 households, heat pumps at the Board of Election, a compost site at Alden Correctional, a salvage nursery with 500 trees + $9 million in grants.  WBFO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Seneca Babcock Community Association lost tax-exempt status when its director did not file IRS forms, prompting his resignation and a call by Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro for an AG probe. The association is now filing missing forms and seeking reinstatement within six to eight months.  WBFO

HEALTH NEWS

  • A North Tonawanda swimmer who underwent a liver transplant will return to school soon + marking a hopeful milestone in his recovery.  WGRZ
