  • Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Monday the start of Shea’s Buffalo Theatre’s nearly $35 million expansion, with $18.5 million from the state + an extra $5 million capital grant to upgrade the box office, lobby, and accessibility in downtown.  WBFO

  • Gas price climbed to $3.56/gallon in Buffalo since Monday due to global pressures while Catholic Charities of Buffalo named a new leadership team to boost its $8M Appeal 2026 goal and Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino offers March Madness seat reservations plus food and drink specials from March 19 to 22.  WBEN

  • D'Youville University is set to open its College of Osteopathic Medicine this fall—despite recent layoffs amid staff changes.  The Buffalo News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews from the state DEC and U.S. Coast Guard are at the Naval Park removing 25,000 gallons of fuel from USS Croaker and 30,000 gallons of water from USS The Sullivans. The cleanup (expected to last 6 to 14 days) paves the way for dry docking repairs to secure the vessels for future generations.  ABC 7
  • Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper announced Monday a $1.6 million EPA-funded grant program to support restoration projects in the Niagara River/Lake Erie watershed, addressing invasive species, habitat repair, and pollution control. Eligible organizations must submit Letters of Intent by Friday, Apr. 17 and join a public webinar on Thursday, Mar. 26.  WGRZ

  • Developers Frank DiMaria Jr. and Michael Silbak are spending over $2.5 million to convert the historic Electric Avenue building into Canal House — a space with 15 apartments and a street-level bar and restaurant; construction starts this spring with tenants expected next summer.  WBEN
