  • Lancaster is coming together to support Makayla, a 17-year-old whose mother died in a house fire on Central Avenue Monday afternoon. Her uncle Jeff Leonardi started a GoFundMe that has raised $21,189 from 441 donations and Makayla is staying with him while she copes with her loss.  ABC 7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 4-year-old child was found unresponsive in a private pool on Constance Lane in Cheektowaga just before 4:30 p.m. on Thursday—emergency crews transported him to Oishei Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  ABC 7

  • AARP warned that scammers are using new technology, including AI-generated voices, to trick older residents into sending money—losses exceed $200 million each year as the group calls for stronger consumer protections.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon delivered his State of the City Address at Buffalo City Hall, the first by a new leader in almost 20 years—detailing plans for three new offices aimed at emergency management, innovation, and gun violence prevention. He proposed creating a parking and mobility authority to reduce repair costs—while calling for a 3% hotel bed tax to support local cultural institutions.  WBEN
  • Protesters in Niagara Square called for the exoneration of Geraldine Pointer and Martin Sostre, who were arrested in 1965 for selling drugs and weapons from a bookstore—protesters marched to the Erie County District Attorney’s office on March 20 to honor what would have been Sostre’s 102nd birthday.  WGRZ
