  • Parishioners in Buffalo continue fighting the Diocese’s Road to Renewal plan after a mandatory meeting for priests on Tuesday to discuss bankruptcy + church closures. Save Our Buffalo Churches collected over 1,000 signatures as local leaders vow not to surrender to planned mergers.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buffalo School Board member Erik Bohen said Tuesday morning on WBEN that closing schools is necessary to address the district’s financial deficit & the board is exploring other cost-saving measures. The proposal remains under discussion amid ongoing fiscal challenges.  WBEN
  • Buffalo’s former Community School 53 (now Nan M. Wood Community School of Excellence) was renamed in honor of its longtime principal who expanded student horizons; the change celebrates his lasting impact on local education.  The Buffalo News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Buffalo Public Schools is putting extra spending on hold as it reviews ways to lower its deficit, with School Board Member Larry Scott explaining that the district will consider several options to balance its budget soon.  WBEN
  • Tonawanda started using its new asphalt recycler (which patches potholes in any weather) today, with city officials saying the equipment will soon improve road conditions on local streets. The city plans to deploy the recycler across affected areas in the coming weeks.  WGRZ

  • Belmont Housing Resources for WNY and CB-Emmanuel Realty received planning board clearance to spend $175 million on turning a vacant 17-acre site along Fillmore Avenue — just below the Kensington Expressway — into the Glenview Heights apartment complex, promising affordable housing for local residents.  The Buffalo News

  • The Buffalo Bills say the new Highmark Stadium is 93% complete as a recent tour showed that only finishing touches remain before its full launch.  WGRZ
