COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, more than 200 people protested outside Tesla Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo to condemn corporate greed by Elon Musk. The event lasted over an hour — protesters waved signs asking for Musk to step down — while counter-protesters with American flags voiced a differing opinion.  WGRZ
  • WNY Girl Scouts organized a pet adoption drive — partnering with local shelters to match families with adoptable pets. Many local animals found new forever homes through the event.  WGRZ
  • Buddy's Second Chance Rescue has announced an Easter fundraiser titled 'Egg My Yard' to help foster families by raising funds for vetting processes and supply costs. The event will take place on April 19 in Niagara and Erie County as families purchase eggs with candy or dog treats for local hunts — nearly 300 homes participated last year.  WGRZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buffalo grocery stores are joining a renewed state push to sell wine in stores licensed for beer sales; liquor store owners warn this change could hurt small businesses and shrink wine choices—lawmakers will soon consider a bill that favors larger supermarkets while offering perks for local wineries. The effort comes as a coalition of grocery chains, the New York Farm Bureau, and the Business Council argues that selling wine with groceries will offer more convenience to consumers.  The Buffalo News

CRIME NEWS

  • Accusations that Buffalo Police wrongly arrested John H. Walker Jr. and Darryl A. Boyd in a 1976 murder case have already cost taxpayers $8.7 million— the wrongful arrest trial could cost Erie County taxpayers millions more.  The Buffalo News
  • Defense attorneys for Payton Gendron, who killed 10 people in a racially motivated mass shooting on May 14, 2022, filed a motion to delay his federal trial—citing issues with evidence production and asking the court to shift the trial start from Sept. 8, 2025 to Sept. 8, 2026 with jury selection set for Jun. 2026.  WGRZ

  • Shea’s 710 Theatre is now showing DIAL M FOR MURDER — an update by Jeffrey Hatcher of the classic thriller by Frederick Knott that mixes a tale of jealousy, revenge, and mystery. The play runs through April 13 with shows on Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 8:00 p.m., and today at 2:00 p.m., and it is directed by Robyn Lee with a cast including Kate LoConti Alcocer, Steve Copps, Todd Benzin, Adam Yellen, and Kristen Tripp Kelley.  Buffalo Rising

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buffalo student Roman Jimenez, 15, earned a Ketchum gold medal on March 25th — sharing the honor with co-medalist Amellyn Freeman — after achieving a 100% average that earned him a $1,000 award. The 154-year-old tradition honored top eighth graders and featured a greeting from Mayor Christopher Scanlon.  The Buffalo News

  • Anthony Tyson-Thompson is the 11th candidate running for Buffalo mayor; he said his campaign will use his East Side experience to improve infrastructure—reduce child poverty and boost economic opportunity.  The Buffalo News

  • CNN’s 'Fentanyl in America: A Way Out' will air today at 8 p.m. and features Western New Yorkers including Elma resident Jennifer Gauthier who battled opioid addiction since 2006 after a car accident and now finds hope in methadone treatment and nurse support—part of Catholic Health’s effort to offer compassionate care.  The Buffalo News
