ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday night, heavy rain flooded an underpass in East Aurora and trapped a driver in her car—prompting a local DPW worker to wade through rising water to rescue her as police later urged drivers to obey barricades.  ABC 7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hwa Fong Rubber has completed the purchase of the Sumitomo Rubber facility in Tonawanda (renamed HF Industrial Park) and will redevelop it for automotive manufacturing. The new hub will host local, national, and international companies focused on rubber products, wheel parts, transmissions, and chassis components.  WGRZ
  • Hwa Fong Rubber announced the purchase of the former Sumitomo Rubber facility in Tonawanda and now calls it HF Industrial Park. The company will welcome local, national, and international operations, including automotive manufacturing, as the site reopens after closing in November 2024.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Buffalo’s Pierce Arrow Museum — downtown — celebrates the city’s transportation heritage with a new exhibit featuring classic vehicles and stories of local innovators. The display welcomes visitors today.  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Donte, the King of Ausome, announced a scholarship giveaway in honor of Autism Acceptance Month this April for a student on the spectrum (or their siblings) to support local education.  WGRZ
  • UB President Satish Tripathi, whose 15-year term brought major changes like expanded engineering programs and boosted AI research, will step down in July. He will return as faculty after a year off (to prepare for teaching) as he reflects on his legacy and continues contributing to the Buffalo community.  The Spectrum

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The removal of the Lake Erie-Niagara River ice boom is set to begin on April 6 after satellite images showed the eastern basin meets the ice criteria, though ice remains in the lower Niagara River. Installed since 1964 to block excess ice from entering the river, the process marks a step toward spring.  ABC 7
  • Heavy rain yesterday led streams and creeks to overflow across the city. National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Thomas warns residents that more rain is expected later today.  WBEN

  • Today demolition of Highmark Stadium begins as workers remove seats, bleachers and other unique items now offered for sale at the site.  WBEN
