- ➤ On Saturday, May 17, the East Side Bike Club will host the Buffalo Solidarity Ride—meeting at 9:15 a.m. at the MLK Park statue and riding at 10 a.m. to honor those affected by the 5/14 Tops attack; many local bike groups will join the event to show that Buffalo stands against hate. - ➤ Community members gathered at The Stage on Main Street to honor 7-year-old Noah Whitmore after he died in a car accident in March — his family raised over $45,000 in donations and plans to form a foundation to preserve his memory — showing how neighbors came together in a time of loss. ABC 7
- ➤ Thirty-five Western New York veterans returned home Sunday night at Buffalo Niagara International Airport after an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. They visited memorials for World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War and were welcomed by family, friends and community volunteers as part of the flight organized by Buffalo-Niagara Honor Flight and sponsored by M&T Bank and the Buffalo Bills Foundation. - ➤ Union members rallied Saturday outside the Buffalo AKG Art Museum during a fundraiser to protest layoffs that cut Visitor Experience staff from 41 to 14—claiming the museum targeted unionized workers—while officials said the layoffs were an operational decision and offered severance packages. - ➤ Lockport is seeing a revival as the restored Palace Theatre now hosts local shows—while the old post office, a landmark built in 1904 that is listed on the National Register, now houses Big Ditch Brewing Company which opened last month and attracts locals. - ➤ Developer Douglas Jemal and Amherst Town Supervisor Brian Kulpa are at odds over the Boulevard Mall redevelopment as Jemal said the town stopped its plan to take the entire site by eminent domain because it lacks funds while Kulpa said the process is on hold until all agreements and money are ready—leaving the mall’s future unclear. Jemal wants to refill the empty mall and push his own plan, but Kulpa insists the town must protect its money before moving forward. The Buffalo News

- ➤ On March 21, a court ruled that Leon Martin III can get redacted records of his hospital roommate after he caught Covid at Buffalo General. His lawyer said the redacted records—showing when the roommate tested positive—will help prove the hospital made a mistake during Martin’s stay. The Buffalo News
- ➤ Suneel Ram, a 28-year-old from Williamsville living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, relies on daily physical and occupational therapies — including weekly medication infusions and 40 pills—to manage his condition while taking a Japanese class at UB and exploring spirituality and animation. His mother, Dr. Neera Gulati, uses lessons from research and nonprofit work to care for him and hopes that ongoing advances will further improve his quality of life. The Buffalo News
