  • BeBee’s on the Square in downtown Buffalo, housed in the Brisbane Building in Lafayette Square, opened in March offering Mediterranean-inspired dishes and local artwork. BUSINESS NEWS

  • JECA Energy Bars in Cheektowaga is preparing for explosive growth as it plans to move beyond its small kitchen. The startup, which makes energy bars from whole foods, is set to expand its operations.  The Buffalo News
  • Community leaders on Jefferson Ave have started a multimillion-dollar streetscape project that will add sidewalks, curbs, streetlights, benches, traffic signals + trash cans to improve the area.   • Shake Shack will open its second Western New York location at 5205 Transit Road on April 15, serving classic burgers and fries from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily plus guests will receive a tote bag on opening day.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Golisano Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship is converting the former Buffalo News headquarters on Washington Street into a hands-on learning hub where business-minded students learn real-world practices from day one. The institute is set to open in August and will include flexible spaces for class and community events.  WGRZ

  • The Tax Lady — Esther Gulyas — is helping residents sort through their documents as they prepare for the April 15 tax deadline.  WBEN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Buffalo Sewer Authority broke ground on a $29.3 million project to replace old sewer pipes and lead water lines on the West Side; construction starts Monday, April 13 with new traffic patterns + sidewalk closures to control sewer overflows and protect the Black Rock Canal.  WBFO

HEALTH NEWS

  • A local grief center in Western New York marked its one-year anniversary by helping dozens of families navigate loss (filling a key gap in grief support). It remains a vital resource for community healing.  WGRZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • People Inc. invested $42 million to develop the 93-unit Blocher Apartments on Evans Street in Williamsville to help seniors stay close to home; 70+ units are leased and the complex will be fully occupied by early summer.  WBEN
