COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Dyngus Day Parade will start at 5:30 p.m. on April 21 with a route that begins at Memorial Drive and ends at Fillmore Avenue. Traffic will be heavy in the Broadway-Fillmore area as Broadway from Wilson Street to Young Street and Fillmore Avenue from Sycamore Street to Paderewski Drive are closed from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. — organizers advise arriving early to secure parking.  WGRZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jeff Lebsack of The Riverline is restarting Jane’s Walk in the Moore Street neighborhood to connect residents with Buffalo’s rich history through a 90-minute tour starting Friday, May 2 at 2 p.m. The walk will continue along Chicago Street and end at Resurgence (a local gathering space) to encourage people to experience the neighborhood on foot.  Buffalo Rising
  • The Alleyway Theatre is running Agatha Christie's The Murder of Roger Ackroyd today, with seven actors playing over 16 roles in a fast-paced staging led by director Chris Handley + the play will run until May 3.  Buffalo Rising
  • Pete Gallivan of 2 On Your Side explained Fort Niagara’s role in the Revolutionary War in 1775—showing its strategic use— and detailed how the fort influenced early battle actions.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Scientists in Buffalo developed a nanoparticle-based vaccine that showed 100% protection in mice against a deadly H5N1 bird flu strain — the study was published in a peer-reviewed journal this week. Lead researcher Dr. Jonathan Lovell said further confirmation studies will test the vaccine and examine its potential to protect livestock from similar viruses.  WGRZ

  • Alex Tuch was voted the winner of the 2024-25 Rick Martin Memorial Award — a prize given to a Sabres player for on-ice skill, resiliency, and community care — by fans, marking his third straight win. He has continued to support local charities and community programs through his dedication on and off the ice.  Spectrum News
  • Outside Chronicles has released the trail list for the 2025 WNY Hiking Challenge that combines 46 trails from Western New York and the Finger Lakes with hikes earning 3, 5, 8, or 15 points and a finisher patch for 100 points. Registration opens on April 30 and the challenge runs from May 1 to November 14—profits will benefit the Finger Lakes Trail Conference and trail maintenance groups.  WGRZ
