BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Buffalo Planning Board approved the ShotClub Buffalo Social project for a $30 million golf-themed entertainment center near the Buffalo River—clearing a key municipal hurdle for the planned facility at Elk Street. The two-level center will feature 60 driving bays, an outdoor mini golf course, arcade games and bars while joining a new sports and entertainment district in the Valley neighborhood.  The Buffalo News

CRIME NEWS

  • Bryan Chiclana, 34, accused of murdering Mickey Harmon and Jordan Celotto in Allentown on March 4, pleaded not guilty after his defense filed a psychiatric notice—further proceedings are scheduled for June 30.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • 2nd Generation Theatre will stage Hedwig and the Angry Inch, an Obie Award-winning rock musical featuring Buffalo drag icon Vanna Deux as Hedwig and directed by Michael Gilbert-Wachowiak. The show will run May 2-18 at Shea’s Smith Theatre—offering a powerful look at transformation and identity.  Buffalo Rising

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Egg prices in WNY have remained low despite concerns that Easter and Passover would drive costs up; Aldi and Walmart cut prices by 50 cents from last week and many Tops stores offer the low-priced Kreher Family Farms brand, meaning you can buy a dozen eggs for under $4+ recent tracking shows the downward trend continues.  ABC 7
  • Buffalo Niagara International Airport reported strong holiday weekend traffic with more than 30,000 extra travelers boosting its year to date numbers by roughly 5% despite a drop in Canadian travel — airport officials and local tourism leaders said they will monitor if reduced travel leads to fewer available seats.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Erie County & Town of Amherst are teaming up to transform the former Westwood Golf Course into Willowdale Park with a 9-hole course, walking trails, and a playground. The project will also upgrade the old clubhouse into offices and is expected to finish next year.  WBEN
  • Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz held a town hall meeting on April 22nd at Lancaster Opera House with about 100 residents offering mixed feedback and tough questions. He presented slides on county investments from American Rescue Plan funds and warned that federal cuts may impact local programs—while his liberal views elicited both cheers and boos.  The Buffalo News

  • Micah Hyde will host the 5th annual charity softball game on May 4 at Sahlen Field where several Buffalo Bills players will participate and fans will enjoy a free pre-game plaza party beginning at 9 a.m. Gates will open at noon and the first pitch is set for 2 p.m., with funds raised supporting his Imagine for Youth Foundation and six teammate foundations.  WGRZ
  • Kristen Sharkey was introduced today as the new coach of the University at Buffalo women's basketball team (she was announced at an on-campus event) and will lead the team in upcoming games.  WGRZ
  • Analyst Chad Reuter predicts UB linebacker Shaun Dolac will be selected as the No. 173 overall pick by the Bills in tonight’s NFL Draft at Green Bay—former NFL guard Brian Baldinger also praised his tackling. The three-day event runs until Saturday and could mark a turning point for Buffalo’s NFL prospects.  WGRZ
