  • Providence Farm Collective in Orchard Park is suing the USDA after its federal grant was terminated, relying on a $199,862 state grant to cover funding cuts for its 200 farmers. The collective remains committed to helping local farmers gain independence.  WBFO
  • Maid of the Mist begins its 141st season today at 9 a.m. at Niagara Falls State Park featuring decals for America's 250th birthday. The pickleball chain Crush Yard will expand behind Angry Buffalo + the International Aviation Snow Symposium runs through April 29 at the Convention Center.  WBEN
  • Local homeless men joined an Earth Week cleanup in Buffalo to clear public spaces and promote environmental care; their participation showed that every resident can help keep our city green.  WGRZ

  • Boston Valley Elementary changed its name to Sabres Valley Elementary on Wednesday to show support during Round 1 of the playoffs as students and staff updated the school sign; the school backed the Sabres in their matchup against the Bruins.  WBFO
  • Canisius University is launching a six-year BS+MD accelerated pathway for aspiring physicians starting fall. Students begin year-round courses at Canisius in Buffalo before transitioning to WAUSM for further medical training.  Canisius University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Maine company has been awarded a $6.9 million contract to install new fiber-reinforced bulkheads at the 110-year-old lock in Black Rock Channel. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the project — set to modernize a key waterway feature — is expected to start soon.  The Buffalo News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents can drop off unused, expired prescription drugs at events hosted by Wegmans, Tops Friendly Markets and Batavia Police this Saturday for National Drug Take Back Day. Wegmans will accept drop-offs from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at 651 Dick Road (Depew) while Tops hosts bins during normal hours.  WGRZ

  • A Hamburg homeowner has struggled for three years with a growing sinkhole that began after roadwork near Route 5, and state and town officials remain in discussions to determine responsibility while he hires a plumber to help stabilize his property.  ABC 7
