BUSINESS NEWS

  • David Coupland, a British entrepreneur, will launch the innovative Qu Anytime app in June in Buffalo to offer group chats on topics from light pollution to local history—built with a team of UB masters students. He has planned a 10-day citywide treasure hunt and a live storytelling event at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum to showcase the city’s hidden gems.  Buffalo Rising
  • The Buffalo Hyatt Regency was ordered by the National Labor Relations Board to bargain with the Hyatt Workers United union after workers alleged illegal practices such as firings and social media surveillance. The rare Gissel order applies to front of house workers (restaurant staff and lobby attendants) as the union vows to push back against further union busting.  The Buffalo News

  • A 10-year-old girl was critically injured when an SUV struck her while riding an electric bicycle Monday at Main—Fletcher Street in Tonawanda, and she is now at Oishei Children's Hospital.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the state Assembly passed the Medical Aid in Dying bill with an 81–67 vote that allows terminally ill people facing less than six months to live to request doctor-prescribed medication to end their lives. The bill now heads to the Senate Health Committee for further review.  The Buffalo News
  • Gov. Hochul announced FY26 Budget investments for middle class families on April 30 (her announcement aims to support working households and boost state economic growth) as part of her fiscal plan.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sam Vaughn, director of the Child Advocacy Center, works to help children who suffer abuse even after Child Abuse Prevention Month ended in April. He said that 1 in 10 children in Erie County face abuse and about 3000 cases go unreported each year+ he remains committed to guiding his team and local partners in providing free, essential services to protect kids.  WGRZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Flag football teams are now being recruited for the 6-on-6 tournament at Highmark Stadium, and teams must raise $1,750 to qualify. The tournament, presented by New Era Cap Foundation and hosted by Special Olympics New York, will run from June 6th to June 7th—opening ceremonies start at 8:15 a.m. and games begin at 9:30 a.m.  Buffalo Rising
