  • Step Out Buffalo’s Buffalo Artisans & Flea will be held in a new venue at 80 Perry Street in the Cobblestone District on Saturday, June 28, starting at 11am, and on Sunday, June 29, starting at 10am. The event will offer more space, more vendors & food trucks along with a FeedMore WNY food drive, and tickets cost $5 with free entry for kids under 10.  Buffalo Rising

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Bills planned for future development while designing the new stadium and looked at options for attractions near the Abbott Road campus—plans that include mixed-use spaces and a possible Bills or tailgate village. Orchard Park already approved new zoning rules to allow hotels, condos, and retail in the area, changes that may boost tourism and regional business.  The Buffalo News

CULTURE NEWS

  • MusicalFare Theatre in association with Shea’s presents Legally Blonde at Shea’s 710 Theatre from May 1 through May 18 with shows on Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.—this revitalized production stars Gretchen Didio and returning and new cast members delivering a joyful, energetic performance on a larger stage to allow fresh talent to shine. The production offers two hours and 30 minutes of musical entertainment with a 15 minute intermission and promises to captivate local audiences.  Buffalo Rising
  • The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra joined with R&B singer Ryan Shaw in a concert Saturday night at Kleinhans Music Hall—mixing orchestral and R&B sounds to entertain the local audience.  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from Park School won first place at the Kenneth T. Rybarczyk Memorial Model Bridge Contest on Wednesday, April 30 when their 92 gram balsa wood bridge held 278 pounds for a record efficiency score. More than 60 teams from local schools competed and the contest was led by physics teacher Mr. John Zamojski — guiding the design and build that gave the school its first top finish.  WGRZ
  • Former Maryvale High School choral director William Rogers was surprised on his 85th birthday when dozens of alumni held a concert in Cheektowaga (27 years after his retirement). He briefly conducted the performance to honor his four decades of teaching.  ABC 7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Over 1,000 trees were planted Saturday as more than 4,000 volunteers joined park restoration and cleanup efforts across New York for I Love My Park Day—Western New York sites such as Niagara Falls played key roles in the event. Organizers said the action supports the state’s initiative to plant 25 million trees by 2033.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Acting Mayor Christopher Scanlon and city leaders opposed Senator Sean Ryan’s deficit borrowing bill on Friday—saying the plan to let the Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority issue bonds between $70 million and $150 million was reckless—and proposed an $622 million budget with an 8 percent property tax hike. City leaders will act on the proposal later this month.  ABC 7

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • ECC South—a 102-acre campus near the new Bills stadium—will be sold by the end of the year or early next year once most programs move to a new site on Cobham Drive, as the bulk of the property lies in Hamburg where zoning is more attractive to developers. Orchard Park, with its stricter zoning rules, continues to adjust regulations to spur future growth in the area.  The Buffalo News

  • After winning Game 1 9 to 3 against the Vancouver Warriors, the Buffalo Bandits travel to British Columbia today for Game 2 at 9 p.m. Eastern at Rogers Arena—coach John Tavares said the team is focused on keeping its fast pace—hoping to clinch the series in two games.  WGRZ
