- ➤ Rite Aid said it will soon close its 73 stores in Western New York—including 13 in Buffalo—after filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company will still fill prescriptions and serve customers online while it winds down underperforming stores. WBEN
- ➤ Rite Aid told workers in a letter Monday that if a buyer is not found the chain will close 39 stores in the Buffalo Niagara region — it also will shutter five more locations across Western New York. The Buffalo News

- ➤ Acting Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon announced that the $12 million Thomas M. Smith Athletic Center at Shoshone Park’s Don Morris Field will open this summer. The 34,500-foot facility is set to feature an indoor turf playfield, a secondary training area and a community meeting room—funded with ARPA funds, Erie County and New York State support. - ➤ Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon’s budget cleared a major hurdle when Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie confirmed a 3% hotel bed tax and the new Buffalo Parking and Mobility Authority were added to the state’s spending plan—each is meant to help cover a $70 million deficit. The tax is expected to bring in $3.5 million, though State Senator Sean Ryan said the plan is short-sighted and may not improve the city’s economic outlook. WBEN
