  • Erie Grown launched a new farmers market map and website to help locals find fresh fruits, vegetables, and regional goods in Erie County—offering a Local Food Finder and Passport program that lets visitors earn prizes by collecting points from different markets.  Buffalo Rising

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Augie's will open a second Buffalo location on Saturday, May 10 at the former Mister Sizzle's spot on Connecticut Street following a recent dispute settlement and name change; the restaurant will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and milkshakes with temporary hours from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and plans to add a bar soon.  WGRZ

CRIME NEWS

  • Officers said a 17-year-old was charged after gunfire was reported at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at 5165 Broadway—an incident at a local shopping plaza in Depew.  The Buffalo News
  • Depew police responded on Wednesday evening to a shooting in a Dollar General parking lot on Broadway where a 20-year-old victim was shot multiple times and a 17-year-old suspect was arrested at a nearby home—he faces charges of attempted murder, assault, and petit larceny while the victim remains in stable condition at the hospital.  WBEN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A report by the VA Office of Inspector General found that local leaders at the Buffalo VA delayed appointments for veterans with serious health needs, with one patient dying while waiting for treatment. Two top executives were removed from patient care roles + officials plan to introduce new procedures to prevent further delays.  The Buffalo News
  • On January 26, ICE arrested 40-year-old Omolybagbe Respect Eigbe at his Blasdell home after his night shift, and his wife pleaded for his release as the family struggles with financial hardships while he remains held at the Buffalo Federal Detention Center—his citizenship remains pending despite his clean record.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was named one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in Health and recognized as a powerful voice for cardiac care. Hamlin, who survived a 2023 cardiac arrest and later lobbied for heart safety laws such as the HEARTS Act, also founded a youth health initiative — marking his ongoing impact on public health.  WGRZ
  • Rite Aid will close its Gowanda store and up to 59 stores in Western New York if a buyer is not found—this may lead to pharmacy deserts in small communities like Eden and Silver Creek, forcing residents to travel far for prescriptions. Independent pharmacists warn that seniors and local patients will lose easy access to key health services as the closures continue.  The Buffalo News

  • Developer Sam Savarino is converting the DL&W Terminal along the Buffalo River into a large public market featuring dining, art, and live events—this project will open in 2027 with improved rail, bike, and boat access.
