- ➤ Last month, the SPCA rescued over 50 ducks, chickens, roosters, sheep, and goats from a Springville farm after finding them underweight and lacking proper food and water. The rescued animals have begun receiving care including vaccinations and hoof trimming while homes are being sought for the chickens and ducks. WGRZ
- ➤ The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo awarded over $1.26 million from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Funds to 77 local organizations. The grants — offered in 2026 — support community programs across Western New York. The Buffalo News
- ➤ Eight beagles rescued from a controversial testing facility in Wisconsin now acclimate to life at a Darien Center sanctuary – many experiencing grass, treats, and beds for the first time; staff say rehabilitation will take time before the dogs are ready for adoption. WGRZ

- ➤ Buffalo Schools unveiled a new strategic plan focused on academic growth, student belonging, and parent engagement after Superintendent Pascal Mubenga presented it to the board today. The plan also includes improved transportation options to help students reach classes. The Buffalo News
- ➤ Trocaire College offers scholarships for new nursing and veterinary technician programs this Fall. Applicants must meet academic requirements and submit materials by July 15 to receive prorated awards of up to $2,000 + $3,000. WGRZ
- ➤ Niagara University and Rich Products announced new scholarships for its global business program — awards open to students based on academic merit. WGRZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tonawanda's aging Kohler Pool will receive $850,000 in federal funds, announced by Congressman Tim Kennedy, to repair key issues and preserve the summer staple. Repairs will begin next year as the project gathers additional funding for full reconstruction. ABC 7
- ➤ Pending Buffalo Common Council approval, the city agreed to pay $5.9 million over three years to the estate of firefighter Jason Arno, who died in a four-alarm fire on Main Street in March 2023 (the fire was accidentally started by contractors). WBFO

- ➤ A UB infectious disease expert said that even though a cruise ship outbreak has sparked interest in Hantavirus, Western New Yorkers face almost no risk at home—rodent droppings should be cleaned safely with a mask, bleach, and paper towels while affected ship cases remain under close medical care. - ➤ The Buffalo Common Council approved a plan for the former Voelker's Lanes site to be developed into an apartment complex, which will add new housing in the area (project details will be shared soon). WGRZ
