  • Bills star quarterback Josh Allen turned 30 while presenting a check of over $140,000 at New Era Cap headquarters to help the pediatric critical care team at Golisano Children's Hospital, and additional funds are expected with a new cap release.  The Buffalo News
  • Buffalo Central Terminal will host free community events this summer and fall including a car show on Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Circle Thursdays concerts on July 9, July 23, and Aug. 6, a backpack giveaway on Aug. 8, and a Fall Fest with trunk or treat on Oct. 29.  WBFO
  • Light City Carshare launched a pilot program yesterday with three new electric vehicles for East Side rides. Residents can reserve a ride via the Zev app for $5 per hour or $40 per day, with vehicles parked at True Bethel Baptist, Tri-Main Center and Buffalo Center for Arts and Technology.  WBFO
  • A NYSEG technician visited a Hamburg home Tuesday morning after a smart meter sent a high heat alert near the electrical panel. An emergency electrician repaired visible damage that could have led to a house fire.  ABC 7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 13 at 2:00 p.m., NYS DEC rangers rescued a 47 year old Amherst resident who got lost on the Street and Nye Mountain trail near Indian Pass Brook in North Elba and escorted the hiker back to his car before 5:00 p.m.  WGRZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Buffalo chef Darian Bryan won Season 5 of Gordon Ramsay's Next Level Chef on Thursday, May 21 by taking home a $250,000 prize and a year-long mentorship. A downtown watch party celebrated his win and he will open his new Reserve Steakhouse by Chef Darian in mid-June.  ABC 7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Buffalo families might face higher costs for their Memorial Day barbecue as prices for burgers, hot dogs and watermelon have jumped 13% since last year due to rising gas prices now averaging $4.56 per gallon. Experts suggest checking budgets ahead of this busy weekend.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Buffalo School Board passed a $1.4 billion budget in a four-hour meeting, raising concerns over planned cuts to culturally responsive instruction and programming in district schools.  The Buffalo News
  • Construction is advancing fast at the Golisano Institute in the renovated Buffalo News building, with a business program that will open this fall. Enrollment is open for 75 in the 2-year and 25 in the 1-year courses, and a weekly speaker series is planned.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Supporters urged Gov Hochul to join the federal tuition tax credit program that will help students in both public and private schools starting next January. Advocates said an early decision before Jan. 1 will boost funding for efforts like the long-running BISON Education Fund supporting about 1,800 children + additional scholarships.  WBFO
  • The state Public Service Commission approved a temporary rate hike for NYSEG that will raise electric bills 0.2 percent and natural gas bills 1.7 percent starting June 1, with final rates to be decided in the coming months.  ABC 7
  • Gov. Hochul today unveiled a renovated park in Buffalo after a $50M transformation. The updated Buffalo Harbor State Park features a spray park, bison sculpture, fountain, accessible playground, café, retail space, restrooms, and park office — a multifaceted upgrade for local residents.  The Buffalo News
