COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Buffalo Marathon weekend features a 5K run/walk expo today with road shutdowns on Pearl, Franklin, Barker, Tupper, Linwood, and Delaware avenues, while the main marathon is set for tomorrow with closures on Franklin and Genesee streets from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. About 500 volunteers are setting up today and 1,500 more will support tomorrow's race (volunteers assist with logistics and hospitality).  WGRZ
  • KeyBank, Buffalo GoGreen and Providence Farm Collective will return the Delavan-Grider Farmers Market at the Delavan-Grider Community Center in East Buffalo from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each Thursday from May 29 through fall—this market will provide fresh local produce to help ease food insecurity by moving indoors when rain occurs.  Buffalo Rising

  • The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra is holding its Patriotic Pops Coffee Concert during Memorial Day weekend to honor veteran caregivers who support America’s veterans—mostly women—by sharing personal stories through The Odyssey Project.  ABC 7
  • Canalside’s new exhibit 'Waterway of Change: Complex Legacies of the Erie Canal' opened Friday in the Longshed to show the Erie Canal’s long story — from early Indigenous displacement to immigrant builders and waterfront life — using audio, artifacts, and physical displays to bring the past into focus.  The Buffalo News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials said NYS DOCCS will begin a review process to decide on shutting down up to three state prisons as allowed by the budget. Governor Hochul and DOCCS Commissioner Daniel Martuscello said the final number may be less and noted a staffing crisis after a recent wildcat strike — which led to over 2,000 terminations.  ABC 7

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Buffalo Bandits face the Saskatchewan Rush at 4:30 p.m. today in Game 3 of the NLL Finals at KeyBank Center—sold out by fans. The game comes after a 12—10 win for the Bandits in Game 1 and an 11—10 comeback win for the Rush in Game 2.  Spectrum News
  • From January 1 to March 31, the Buffalo Bills sold nearly 7,900 personal seat licenses, adding $35 million to the new Highmark Stadium’s construction funds — in total, over 18,900 licenses have been sold for about $164 million. The stadium will open next July for the 2026 NFL season.  Spectrum News
  • Acting Buffalo Mayor Christopher Scanlon and Saskatoon Mayor Cynthia Block made a friendly wager on Game 3 of the National Lacrosse League Finals at KeyBank Center today at 4:30 p.m., pledging that if the Buffalo Bandits win Block will donate to FeedMore WNY—if the Rush win Scanlon will donate to the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre.  Spectrum News
