CRIME NEWS

  • Cheektowaga Police seek help finding two missing teens—15-year-old Lamar Wilson was last seen near Eggert and Tudor Roads in all black with a black backpack and gold suitcase, and 17-year-old Jordan Williams was last seen at a Rite Aid parking lot on Harlem Road in Amherst in a red and white hooded sweatshirt with red striped pants and a black backpack—and urge anyone with tips to come forward.  ABC 7
  • Federal prosecutors oppose early release for Michael Masecchia— a 58-year-old former teacher and reputed Buffalo Mafia member serving three years of a seven-year sentence for drug trafficking— arguing that granting compassionate release on disputed medical grounds would undermine public trust given court testimony linking him to organized crime.  The Buffalo News

  • Four students from the Royal Music Academy in Williamsville represented Western New York at the Star Prize Festival in London at Royal Albert Hall—performing on a red piano once owned by Sir Elton John and earning certificates for their efforts.   • Acting Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon launched the 'Keep Buffalo Beautiful' campaign on Friday in Elmwood Village to improve commercial corridors by removing trash, cleaning catch basins, and repairing streets — the effort will soon expand to other areas like Broadway-Fillmore and South Park.  WGRZ
  • Two Buffalo mayoral candidates announced plans on Friday to improve the city's commercial corridors. Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon launched the Keep Buffalo Beautiful campaign in Elmwood Village—while State Sen. Sean Ryan outlined a plan to support small businesses and revive downtown.  WBEN
  • Erie County leaders announced that they plan to consolidate jails and build a new holding center in Alden after unveiling the proposal Friday morning. The plan will renovate the Alden Correctional Facility at a cost over $428 million—expected to save $138 million over 30 years, pending a $30 million approval from the Capital Projects Committee.  ABC 7
