  • A local Western New York family is hosting its annual bottle drive to raise funds for Make-A-Wish. The drive gathers donated bottles from neighbors + helps support children's wish fulfillment.  WGRZ

  • Wells Enterprises has completed its chocolate factory and ice cream plant at its Dunkirk site and is starting phase two of its $425M project. The company will demolish the old plant & build new administrative offices, a wellness center, locker rooms, and a two-story cafeteria that will open in July.  WGRZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • ECMC is hosting its annual Springfest Gala at the Buffalo Convention Center today (the event will include live performances and community celebrations).  WGRZ
  • At 641 Delaware Ave, the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historical Site now flies a 45-star flag that dates to 1901 to honor America’s 250th birthday, and organizers plan a series of events this summer including a black mourning flag in September for President William McKinley.  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A UB graduate traveling for an engineering contest was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Texas (official details are pending review).  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Buffalo-based agency is operating the GOMA Wellness Clinic in Congo to screen patients and educate locals during an Ebola outbreak. The clinic’s Congolese staffers direct symptomatic individuals to a centralized care center amid critical supply shortages (contributions for supplies are accepted through the agency website).  WGRZ
  • Special Spaces of WNY gave a room makeover to a 12-year-old boy in Clarence battling osteosarcoma, and the project shows how local care lifts spirits during tough treatment. The work was finished recently to bring comfort and hope to his daily life.  WGRZ
