  • At the West Seneca annual bottle drive, residents donate bottles and cans to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Western New York—helping children with critical illnesses. Growing over six years, the drive now fills trucks with donations as volunteers work to support the cause.  WGRZ
  • Marcella Herkey celebrated her 100th birthday in Cheektowaga on Thursday surrounded by family, including two great-great-grandchildren. The longtime resident credited her long life to faith (Christian family values).  WGRZ
  • Army veteran Nathan Kalwicki — wounded in Afghanistan — received keys to a new, mortgage-free accessible home in West Falls today, built by A Soldier's Journey Home with local volunteers as he and his wife Veronica look forward to a fresh start and future veteran support.  WGRZ

  • Buffalo’s 4th annual Ladies First hip-hop event celebrates women in music, visual art and activism at Silo City on June 7 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.—the expanded event will feature immersive performances and artwork from local artists including Labrina, Bree Gilliam and KenBoii.  ABC 7
  • After five years of centennial celebrations, Our Lady of Victory held a Mass on Sunday to mark 100 years since the basilica's consecration — a milestone event for the community.  WGRZ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Buffalo's waterfront saw a milestone at Erie Basin Marina when crowds sent off American Patriot on Saturday. The cruise ship carried 130+ passengers, and tourism leaders say the event marks a boost for local tourism with plans for a larger terminal starting construction this summer.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York requested a federal disaster designation after a frost in April caused over $30 million in crop losses (especially for fruit growers) and impacted counties including Erie, Niagara, and Chautauqua. If approved, farmers could apply for low-interest emergency loans.  WGRZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Developers of the Elmwood Crossing project are nearing the final phase of a $110 million development that will transform the former Women's and Children's Hospital into three towers, eight years after the hospital closed + the century-old complex is set for major updates.  The Buffalo News
