  • With temperatures rising this week, pool owner Todd Schupbach of Gary Pools and Leisure in Buffalo expects a surge of customers buying pool supplies as many get ready to open their pools for the season. He said shoppers will look for sanitizing chemicals, shock, pH adjusters and salt generators while the store stocks pools for new installations with crews available in one to four weeks—prices remain steady due to domestic production.  WBEN

CRIME NEWS

  • Data from Governor Hochul’s office shows that from January to April, shooting incidents in Buffalo fell by 6% and victims dropped by 16%, but advocates say everyday violence still hurts local youth. On Saturday, Urban Christian Ministries and Open Buffalo held a gun violence prevention rally and cookout on Jefferson Avenue (to honor lost lives) and (to urge safer choices).  WGRZ
  • Police are investigating whether Richard Fox II, charged with two Buffalo murders, is linked to the 1978 killing of Beth Ann Patterson Brown in Brocton—critics note he was only 15 at the time, and investigators are reinterviewing locals while reviewing old evidence for new leads.  The Buffalo News

  • Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen married actor Hailee Steinfeld on Saturday in a secret ceremony in Southern California. People magazine photos show Steinfeld in a white gown walking down the aisle and the couple sharing a kiss—details of the wedding were kept private.  WBEN
  • After NRG Energy closed the Huntley power plant in 2016, workers and local art supporters looked for the large bronze bust of Charles R. Huntley; they said it was taken down from the wall and stored in a garage, but its whereabouts remain unknown (museum plans to preserve it never materialized).  The Buffalo News
  • Intersect: A Pride Arts Festival in Buffalo honored late community members Mickey Harmon and Jordan Coletto with drag shows, face painting, and tribute performances.   • Buffalo community leaders have opposed the New York State DOT’s plan to keep freeways car-focused as they work to restore a freeway into an Olmsted parkway with $1 billion in funding at risk. A Baltimore reporter has taken notice of the fight and is studying it as a cautionary example for similar efforts.  Buffalo Rising
  • Governor Kathy Hochul announced Saturday that New York will expand its Volunteer Firefighter Training Stipend program to reimburse wildfire training costs — covering fire behavior, weather and wildland firefighting duties — so volunteer firefighters can be better prepared to protect their communities.  Spectrum News

  • The Sabres will borrow the Bills’ One Bills Drive draft room for the decentralized 2025 NHL Draft—first round on June 27 and rounds 2-7 on June 28. The teams, owned by Kim and Terry Pegula, plan to host up to 40 people to support a streamlined selection process.  WGRZ
