GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A group of fired correction officers filed a class action lawsuit in federal court against New York State, the Department of Corrections + Community Supervision and Governor Kathy Hochul, claiming they were terminated for taking family and medical leave and are seeking money and reinstatement. The suit follows recent strike actions that led to over 2,000 workers receiving termination letters. ABC 7
- ➤ Families in New York spent an average of $21,000 on childcare and local experts—such as Sheri Scavone from the WNY Women's Foundation—said the high cost is a crisis that is deterring many from having children. - ➤ The State Senate passed a bill last week that would require large companies to cut plastic packaging and shift waste management costs from taxpayers to producers—community polls show nearly three-quarters support the measure.
