  • Residents in the Old First Ward raised seed money for a new playground on Alabama Street to replace the one removed in 1991, but a dispute has emerged with the city over its sale. City officials say the parcel must be sold at its assessed value of about $45,000—while community leaders recall a promise to sell it for $1.  The Buffalo News

  • Dave Wedekindt has been named president of Artpark and is planning major upgrades to the 50-year-old Mainstage—he aims to modernize the venue and foster community ties with new programs and improved trails.   • On Monday, state assemblymembers and local officials met in Erie County to address Buffalo’s $70 million budget gap and Dunkirk’s $18.5 million deficit built up over 15 years—Buffalo officials approved an 8% property tax hike while further talks are set to find more solutions.  Spectrum News
  • State lawmakers are scrutinizing the city for using only a quarter of a $2 million lead remediation fund over the last four years after lead hazards were removed from just 18 of 110 residences and water tests show high lead levels. City officials said they will spend an estimated $1.25 million by November 2025 — partnering with Erie County’s Lead Safe Program to ensure residents continue receiving vital support.  ABC 7
  • Campaign finance reports filed last week show new details in the Buffalo mayor race; acting Mayor Scanlon raised $490,449.27 and held $666,735 in cash while Senator Ryan recorded $444,450.88 in individual contributions + a $300,000 transfer during the reporting period from January 12 to May 19. Early voting begins June 14, and the primary is set for June 24 + candidates remain in a tight race.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo emergency physician Dr. Joshua Lynch testified Tuesday before a legislative panel that paramedics must be allowed to carry opioid withdrawal drugs like Suboxone to better manage overdoses—he said that current state policy leaves New York behind its peers and puts lives at risk.  The Buffalo News
