- ➤ Tonawanda’s John B. Long, 98, was honored on May 25 for his World War II service during a live PBS Memorial Day program in Washington — he recalled the bond with his fellow soldiers and urged others to remember their sacrifices. The Buffalo News
- ➤ An emergency demolition was ordered and completed for the former Faith Temple at 461 Rhode Island Street near Left Bank restaurant, after the owners chose an unlicensed roofer over a stabilization plan offered by Preservation Buffalo Niagara. Preservation Buffalo Niagara said new City funding is needed — such funds could help stop the pattern of neglect causing more risky demolitions. Buffalo Rising
- ➤ On Saturday, firefighters from the Buffalo Fire Department rescued a deer trapped in water near the USS Croaker at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park at around 2 p.m.—the 30-minute operation ended with the animal released to the Erie County SPCA Wildlife Department as dozens of onlookers watched. - ➤ Buffalo Police are investigating a threat reported by a third party that led to a full evacuation of Wegmans on Amherst Street Sunday night & the store reopened Monday at 6 a.m. WGRZ
- ➤ Lori Ceci Bova went missing after an argument with her husband on June 7th, 1997 in Lakewood and law enforcement — working with advocates during a vigil — continue to search for clues and ask anyone with information to call 716-763-9563. ABC 7
- ➤ Parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo must cover over half of a $150 million settlement reached with more than 900 survivors of clergy sexual abuse—each parish will pay 10—80% of its available cash by July 15. The diocese, affiliated groups and property sales will provide the remaining funds. WGRZ

- ➤ Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon announced Monday that the new Buffalo Animal Shelter will be built at 1294 Niagara Street on the Upper West Side with 16,000 square feet of modern indoor space plus outdoor exercise areas scheduled for Spring of 2026. New York State Sen. Sean Ryan criticized the plan as alleged pay-to-play politics and said he will form an advisory committee to ensure community input—claims that intensify debates about transparency in City Hall. WBEN
- ➤ Buffalo Common Council is meeting today to consider CTRC's request to become the developer for City-owned Terminal properties at Memorial Drive, Curtiss Street, and Newton Street. The proposal will transform the Mail & Baggage and Post Office buildings into 90 to 110 affordable housing units — with ground expected in 2027 and completion by 2029 while stabilization work continues on the Main Terminal. - ➤ A redevelopment at 130 Pearl Street is moving ahead despite a fire that damaged nearby offices on May 1 — plans include turning the old Stewart Title building into 14 apartments with retail space.
