  • Tomorrow, about 7,000 riders will join the 30th annual Ride for Roswell by choosing from nine routes between 4 and 100 miles to help raise funds for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center—organizers say they are nearing a $6 million goal. Festivities began Friday with the Celebration of Hope, a community event honoring patients, survivors and hospital staff.  WBEN

CRIME NEWS

  • A federal grand jury indicted Darryl Lamont Paul, a 59-year-old stag party promoter from Cheektowaga, with seven new sex trafficking charges that say he forced vulnerable women to perform sex acts for money over 25 years—he has been held in custody since his arrest in March and was set to appear in court Thursday morning in Buffalo.  The Buffalo News

  • Buffalo supercentenarian Brunette Washington, known as Mother Washington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 10th at 111 years old. She was celebrated for her deep love for people, strong faith, and lifelong commitment to family and education—leaving a legacy of resilience in our community.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns urged for a plan to address zombie houses that are behind on taxes and causing local complaints—he held a news conference on Thursday on Riley Street near Tops Friendly Market, noting nearly 9,000 properties in the county owe $50 million in back taxes. Kearns called for payment plans and accountability for owners to prevent further problems in the community.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Healthcare workers represented by CWA Local 1168 and 1199SEIU updated on contract talks with Kaleida Health and scheduled a strike authorization vote for July 8, 9, and 10 at sites in Buffalo and Amherst. Nearly 8,000 workers are asking for better staffing, wages, and safety measures to improve patient care—issues that fuel the ongoing dispute and push for changes in working conditions.  WBEN

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Buffalo officials have targeted 51 empty parcels in the Hamlin Park and Masten Park neighborhoods for redevelopment into owner-occupied homes as part of a new plan that lets buyers purchase lots for $1,000. Proposals from several developers are due in late August and construction will start in 2026 — a step to boost affordable housing in these communities — officials said.  The Buffalo News
