  • In Buffalo’s Kenfield neighborhood, the Double Apple grocery store held its grand reopening Tuesday and now offers fresh produce, daily-cut meat and other essentials to serve a local food desert. Owner Tony Ahmed—who invested his life savings—said the move keeps affordable food close to home for residents.  WGRZ

CRIME NEWS

  • A 17-year-old was arrested in connection with a Canalside shooting in Buffalo and faces five felony charges+ including attempted murder and assault.  WGRZ

  • Hundreds attended Rainbow City Pride where live performances, parties hosted by local businesses, and fireworks marked the celebration. The festival offered a vibrant display of local talent and unity (highlighting the community’s spirit).  WGRZ
  • Buffalo artist Elizabeth Leader opens her interactive exhibit 'Seek To Find' at the Charles Burchfield Nature & Art Center this summer; the exhibit offers naturalist drawing and AI species identification and will host Sunday events starting July 13—featuring artist talks and hands-on workshops for all ages. HEALTH NEWS

  • Dental experts say that fluoride helps strengthen young teeth when kept at safe levels—while a study found that banning fluoride could lead to 25.4 million more cavities. Buffalo saw a rise in cavities after nine years without fluoride in its water—raising worry about future dental problems.  Spectrum News
  • On June 27-28, 7,000 riders (with 1,500 volunteers and 775 teams) rode at University at Buffalo’s North Campus for the 30th Ride for Roswell, which raised a record $6.1 million for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. The event, now in its 30th year, has raised more than $86 million since 1996 to help pay for cancer research and patient care programs.  WGRZ

  • The Buffalo Sabres traded defenseman Connor Clifton and a second-round pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins for defensemen Conor Timmins and Isaac Belliveau on Saturday. The team made the deal during draft week—Timmins is a 26-year-old from nearby Thorold and Belliveau, a 22-year-old prospect, has played in both the AHL and ECHL.  WGRZ
