ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • In July 2022, Grand Island officer Thomas J. Franz sped through a red light and hit a minivan near William Kaegebein Elementary School while refusing to speak with investigators—actions that led to nearly $1 million in settlement lawsuits—raising concerns over his promotion and lack of discipline.  The Buffalo News
  • A man was rushed to Erie County Medical Center after his car hit a building Sunday at 4:30 p.m. on the 2900 block of Bailey Avenue—officials said he may have suffered a medical episode.  WGRZ
  • A crash involving a Buffalo Police cruiser occurred Sunday night at the intersection of Sycamore and Mills Streets—two officers and a pickup truck driver were taken to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries.  ABC 7

  • Juveniles were arrested on gun charges after they tried to remove serial numbers from the guns—police say the investigation is ongoing.  WGRZ
  • Police arrested a 17-year-old in Buffalo on Friday for attempted murder after he shot two men with non-life-threatening wounds at Canalside, and an 18-year-old and two 17-year-olds were taken into custody on Saturday on Grand Island for trying to file off a gun's serial number—authorities say the teens now face criminal weapons possession charges.  WGRZ

  • Western New York school districts took varied approaches to setting school start times as Williamsville cancelled its proposed changes after a long debate while Alden and Sweet Home adopted new schedules for the upcoming school year—Ken-Ton officials plan adjustments to address safety and transportation challenges.  The Buffalo News

  • A team led by Philadelphia-based developer Pennrose is presenting its $190 million North Aud Block project for city review today to bring 251 affordable and market-rate apartments + commercial space to Canalside. If approved, construction will take 30 to 36 months to redevelop the former Memorial Auditorium site.  The Buffalo News
  • Records from the Erie County Clerk show many property sales over $5,000 for the week ending March 28. Sales ranged from modest deals to multi-million dollar transactions in Buffalo, Alden and Amherst — including a $3.5 million sale on 43 St Catherine Ct and a $2,050,000 sale by the City of Buffalo at 172 North St E.  The Buffalo News
