  • Canalside is seeing many projects move forward as summer unfolds. The Gateway Building nears its opening this week, Heritage Point plans to restart work by summer's end, and a new North Aud Block project awaits city approval & a plan to revamp nearby public housing is in the works.  The Buffalo News
  • Buffalo’s East Side has renamed the corner of Masten and E. Utica as Agnes Bain Way—honoring the late director who led the African American Cultural Center for over 40 years. Dozens of local community members gathered at the unveiling and board members said they will build on her legacy.  ABC 7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cascades Inc., one of the world's largest paper-products and packaging manufacturers, will shut down its containerboard facility on Packard Road in Niagara Falls in early October—this closure will lay off all workers at the plant.  The Buffalo News

CRIME NEWS

  • A West Seneca man, 44-year-old Samuel Baer, was arraigned Tuesday on an indictment for leaving the scene after allegedly hitting 59-year-old pedestrian Joseph W. Domnissey near the 2000 block of Elmwood Avenue in North Buffalo on September 25th—Domnissey died at ECMC.  ABC 7
  • Samuel Baer (44) was indicted by Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi after a hit-run killed a pedestrian, and he is held without bail (Class D felony charge).  The Buffalo News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local filmmaker Jake Cimperman presents his documentary — Pro Beach Hockey: Sun, Surf and Slapshots — at The North Park Theatre on Monday, July 21 at 7pm. The film tells the story of a 1990s roller hockey league that aired on ESPN and mixed extreme sports with surf culture.  Buffalo Rising

  • Western New York businesses and governments spent $4.6 million on lobbying in 2024, nearly one million dollars more than in 2023—Masiello Martucci Hughes topped O'Donnell Associates by about $80,000.  Buffalo Rising

  • An expert from UB Orthopedics said that at least five fireworks-related injuries have been reported across WNY this July—injuries that can change lives if not treated promptly.  WGRZ
  • Kaleida Health and unionized healthcare workers in Buffalo reached a tentative three-year agreement at 4 a.m. Tuesday—averting a planned strike—and will vote on the deal in the coming weeks.  WBEN
