- ➤ Buffalo Common Council President Bryan Bollman is asking New York’s Attorney General to look into the legal system after the murder of 44-year-old Amanda Thompson—killed by her ex-partner Rickey Crouch, who had a history of violence and was arrested on I‑90—and determine how warning signs were missed. - ➤ Dr. Pascal Mubenga has been appointed as the new superintendent of Buffalo Public Schools, beginning a four-year contract on August 15 (with an annual salary of $285,000). He brings more than 25 years of experience as a teacher, principal and superintendent (including serving at Durham Public Schools) and replaces retired Dr. Tonja Williams Knight. ABC 7

- ➤ After years of effort, the final 1.75-mile section of the 37-mile Greenway trail linking Niagara Falls to Buffalo was completed yesterday in the LaSalle neighborhood — a $1 million project funded with $800,000 from state funds and $200,000 from a local foundation — and now creates a continuous path for local hikers. - ➤ The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and state Department of Environmental Conservation will use a truck with radiation detectors to survey Erie and Niagara counties over the next month for buried radioactive waste from past industrial activities. Ground crews will then visit sites where radiation is detected—collecting soil samples to update data from earlier surveys and guide future cleanup plans. The Buffalo News

- ➤ Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and county officials launched the StreetSmart Erie County campaign on Tuesday to reduce injuries and deaths on roads, sidewalks and parking lots. - ➤ On July 21, Canisius announced the Blue & Gold Excellence Funds to support the university's men's and women's basketball & ice hockey programs amid new NCAA rules that allow student-athletes to earn income from their school. The school opted in to the NCAA settlement for the 2025-26 season and will share revenue through game scheduling & donations to boost team competitiveness. Canisius University
- ➤ The Bills announced they will bring back their iconic red helmets for the Week 18 game against the New York Jets — the final regular season game at Highmark Stadium — using a design from 1987 to 2001 with blue and white striping and white facemasks. - ➤ The G.I.R.L.S Sports Foundation is running a free summer camp at West Hertel Academy from July 21 to 25 for girls ages 8 to 18 to learn sports like soccer, swimming, basketball and volleyball while building confidence and teamwork.
