- ➤ Community members gathered at the Alexander Fire Department this weekend to honor Genesee County Sheriff's Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello, a 32-year veteran killed in March 2023 at Batavia Downs. Proceeds from the motorcycle ride fundraiser will support a scholarship and the Shop with a Cop program—both meant to continue his legacy of service. WGRZ

- ➤ The Bureau of Criminal Investigation and New York State Park Police located the body of a woman aged 46 in the Niagara River about a mile from the site of a Wednesday night boating accident—authorities are still searching for a man aged 66 who was operating the boat. WBEN

- ➤ Pascal Mubenga—known for raising graduation rates and cutting failing schools in Durham—became Buffalo Schools superintendent after resigning amid an accounting error, and former Durham leaders say he will listen, learn and bring his proven methods to strengthen local schools. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began removing Manhattan Project-era radioactive waste from the Niagara Falls Storage Site last summer by demolishing buildings, ripping up foundations and pumping out contaminated groundwater. Officials say the removal marks a key step in reducing environmental risks — more cleanup work will follow. The Buffalo News

Conrad Seneca and local mothers led by Jody Clark and Lucille White are stepping up the fight against drug dealing by tracking suspected drug houses and canceling leases on properties used for drugs — they are working with law enforcement to lessen drug activity on their lands.
