ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A male pedestrian was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer at 6:25 a.m. on Monday near Exit 57 on I-90 in Hamburg—state police said the right lane remains closed beyond the exit.  ABC 7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buffalo's Elmwood Village will soon welcome Mira, a new Mediterranean restaurant set to open in fall on Elmwood Avenue in the former Pano's building. The owners are hiring for all positions and plan to serve dishes inspired by Italy, Spain, and Greeze — reflecting the neighborhood spirit.  WGRZ

CRIME NEWS

  • Last week, a woman hit a lifeguard with a flotation device at JFK Pool — an incident that led city officials to close the pool for the rest of the season until Labor Day as they work with the parks department and community groups to improve safety.  The Buffalo News

  • Buffalo hosts the return of the Beau Fleuve music & arts celebration this weekend, drawing local residents to enjoy live music and creative displays.  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fifty students graduated from the Northland Workforce Training Center's Tesla manufacturing program on Monday—each now set to join Tesla’s workforce with skills in high-end production work. The program partnered with Tesla Gigafactory New York to equip local talent for careers in manufacturing and clean energy.  WBEN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Amherst officials on Monday will vote on resolutions to let Erie County begin work on the Westwood site and to set a Sept. 2 public hearing to transfer nearly 22 acres of the former gun club property—an action that will support redevelopment plans. A gun club developer is planning a $50 million indoor sports complex adjacent to the 716 Health complex while county leaders prepare to convert Westwood into a nine-hole golf course and park.  The Buffalo News
  • Town Supervisor Brian Kulpa said Amherst will sell the old Westwood Country Club property for $1 to Erie County, which will build a nine-hole golf course and park on the vacant site—residents are divided with some saying the sale gives up local control while others welcome the long-awaited green space. Some critics are urging community members to attend Town Hall at 7:00 p.m. tonight to voice their concerns.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Erie County Health is partnering with Buffalo Public Schools and UB Nursing to offer free back-to-school vaccine clinics for students to get required shots; the clinics run on August 21 at BPS 45 International School, September 12 at BPS 95 Waterfront, September 18 at BPS 309 East Community High School and September 19 at BPS 363/415 Lewis J. Bennett/Middle Early College—students must be fully vaccinated by Sept. 17 and families should bring insurance information and any available immunization records.  WGRZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Buffalo Bills lost 38-0 in a Sunday night preseason game against the Bears when backup players underperformed on offense and defense—failing to pressure the quarterback and make key tackles. Coach Sean McDermott said practices gave a chance to evaluate improvements before the regular season begins.  WGRZ
