- ➤ HeronAI, a 43North-winning startup, hired its first local employee weeks after co-founder Daphne Pariser came to Buffalo in January — the company now has seven workers, including four from UB, and will hire more after finishing its funding round later this year. The Buffalo News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Lackawanna man accused of driving while intoxicated crashed on June 5 on the inbound Route 5 Skyway—he struck another car, which killed his passenger and injured another driver, and he now faces charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, second-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault with bail set at $250,000. - ➤ Erie County narcotics chief D.J. Granville, who pleaded guilty to reckless driving and leaving the scene after an accident on Buffalo’s west side, was suspended without pay for 30 working days and agreed to pay restitution to the county—while officials and community members call for an independent investigation by the Attorney General to address concerns over police conduct. - ➤ Kaleida Health announced that Oishei Children's Hospital will be renamed Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo in January 2026—honoring Tom Golisano’s $50 million donation to boost care for local children. ABC 7
