COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Highmark Stadium’s Gate 7 in Orchard Park, the Sheldon family cemetery—dating back over 150 years—is cared for by Gary Hartloff and will still be here when plans for a new stadium start in 2027. The quiet, hidden plot reminds locals of a deep-rooted legacy near the stadium.  The Buffalo News
  • Buffalo held a memorial service to honor Lieutenant McCarthy and Firefighter Croom, who were posthumously awarded the B.F.D memorial award gold medal in 2009 for their brave actions.  WGRZ
  • Residents rallied Friday to back a plan to convert the closed Braymiller Market building at 225 Ellicott St. into an affordable grocery store, while city lawmakers and community groups plan further demonstrations on Sept 26 and Oct 24+ debates continue over other potential uses for the site.  WBFO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UB expects about 1,000 fewer international students this fall due to visa delays and a slowing tech job market—factors that could cut tuition revenue by about $6.5 million. University officials said overall enrollment will remain strong with more domestic graduate students and clearer numbers by mid-September.  The Buffalo News
  • Niagara University said that while international students make up 23% of its body, only 6% come from outside Canada—challenges arose when a visa interview freeze affected admissions. The school will help students earn credits this fall by offering study abroad in Salzburg—Austria as they await visa approvals.  WBFO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Buffalo Common Council will soon hold a Waterfront Development Committee hearing to discuss the future of the Erie Basin Marina. Councilman Mitch Nowakowski said the meeting will review proposals for a new operator and plans to boost the area’s activity.  WBEN

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Local developer David Manko will soon close on 35 acres near the new Highmark Stadium — he plans to invest $3 million in infrastructure before selling the site to a homebuilder for 66 new homes. The Hamburg Planning Board approved the subdivision and reserved six acres for the current owner's dwelling, barn and yard.  WGRZ
  • Erie County real estate records show numerous property deals — ranging from $15,000 to over $3 million — that were recorded by the county clerk’s office for the week ending May 23. The transactions involved many buyers and sellers and reflect active trading in public records.  The Buffalo News
