  • Former Bills star Thurman Thomas said his minority-owned business 34 Group is gaining real-world experience as it works on interior projects—such as installing nearly 60,000 seats—at the new stadium in Orchard Park. The company has been on site for over a year and has already hired five new workers as it prepares for the stadium opening for the 2026 NFL season.  The Buffalo News
  • Local consignment stores are offering quality back-to-school items at affordable prices to help Buffalo families cope with rising costs. Stores like Kid to Kid and Bougie Buffalo let parents buy name-brand clothes or consign items for cash or store credit—providing a budget-friendly option this school year.  ABC 7
  • Six Flags Darien Lake is hiring over 200 workers for jobs such as ride operators, admissions, scare actors and security with applications accepted online and in person at the park's Human Resources building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily — applicants must be at least 16 years old with paid training, and the park announced a 2026 Gold Pass promotion as well as Oktoberfest starting Aug. 30 and running on select days through Sep. 14.  WGRZ

  • A federal judge ruled Monday that Payton Gendron must face trial for federal firearm charges linked to the 2022 shooting at a Buffalo Tops store, which killed 10 Black people and injured three—his hate crime charges count as a violent crime that makes him eligible for the death penalty despite his ongoing life sentence on state charges.  Spectrum News
  • New York Governor Kathy Hochul is considering referring Erie County Sheriff’s chief D.J. Granville to the State Attorney General to probe an alleged cover-up—where Buffalo Police and the sheriff’s office reportedly concealed details of his hit and run crashes that damaged parked cars—after questions at an event on Monday, though no decision has been made.  WBEN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The NFTA said that the historic DL&W Terminal in the Cobblestone District will open for light rail riders this fall as part of a $57 million project that began in 2019. The upgrades add a new pedestrian walkway and art installations and improve safety along the Buffalo River — transforming the building into a modern transit hub.  WBEN
  • Several detainees in Buffalo dropped their federal petitions because they feared long, uncertain detention. Judge Vilardo blocked ICE moves like sending Arzou Hami to Iran and ordered the release of Oliver Eloy Mata Velasquez, while lawyers say miscommunication and lengthy holds are forcing vulnerable people to give up their legal claims — sparking fears of unfair treatment.  The Buffalo News
