ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Marine Corps reservist, Aidan Jerome, helped rescue people after a tour bus carrying 54 passengers crashed on the New York State Thruway near Pembroke one week ago — five died, dozens were injured and nine remain in hospital as he cleared debris.  WGRZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • J.M. Smucker Co. is renovating its Buffalo Milk-Bone plant with a $53 million investment to add 17 jobs and new machines at the 550,000 square foot facility on Urban Street—state and local incentives helped bring the project, which is set to finish by April 2027.  WGRZ
  • Sabres COO Pete Guelli said that KeyBank Center has received a new sound system with acoustic panels, new Evolv Express technology for arena gates, and upgrades at 100 level concessions this season. EG Tax will hold free Big Beautiful Bill seminars (September 16th, 17th, and 18th) and start a free tax school in October, while Moog opened a new Operations Training Center in Elma with US Navy investment to support national defense projects.  WBEN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fifteen tons of chicken wings were delivered to Sahlen Field as final preparations are underway for the National Buffalo Wing Festival, which will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. and is set to offer over 100 wing styles from 20 vendors — including a new twist with student-athletes from D’Youville University cooking some of the wings.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Hochul signed a law requiring every college in New York to have a Title VI anti-discrimination coordinator—whose role is to help students, faculty, and staff confront discrimination. The state will set up training to ensure that all campuses follow Title VI rules.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oishei Children's Hospital will soon change its name to Golisano Children's Hospital after a $50 million donation and will join a network of freestanding hospitals to share care and resources—its primary supporter, the Oishei Foundation, will refocus its investments on local neighborhood projects while the hospital remains with Kaleida Health.  WBFO

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Buffalo's $254M Perry Homes project received over 3,500 applications for its 405 new units with rents based on income—BMHA held a lottery this week for wait lists on 121 non-subsidized and 284 subsidized units while construction continues with phase one set to finish in early 2026.  WGRZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Bills have earned more than $207 million from PSL sales for their new stadium, and over 20,000 licenses remain for sale — a step that will help cover the rising construction costs as estimates have grown from $1.35 billion to at least $2.1 billion.  The Buffalo News
