ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Red Cross is helping six people after a two-alarm fire broke out in a North Buffalo home around 8:30 Sunday night on Grote Street off Elmwood Avenue — crews ensured all occupants got out safely and later located a nine-year-old reported missing while a nearby home also suffered damage; the cause is under investigation. - ➤ Police in East Aurora investigated a crash on East Main Street near Cook Road at 7 p.m. where a motorcyclist suffered serious lower body injuries — the Erie County Sheriff's Accident Investigation Unit assisted with the investigation. WGRZ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ With school back in session, drivers in Buffalo are reminded to slow down when yellow bus lights flash and to come to a full stop when red lights are active—rules that apply on two-lane roads, multi-lane highways and divided highways. The guidelines require stopping at least 20 feet from a bus with flashing lights to ensure student safety. WGRZ
- ➤ Back-to-school season is underway in Western New York as many school districts set their first day of classes between today and September 4—Erie districts like Buffalo City School District start on September 4 while others begin today; the schedule spans counties including Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans, and Wyoming. - ➤ Buffalo protestors held a demonstration Monday at Niagara Square demanding corporate accountability for cuts to Medicaid, SNAP and education funding. The protest was part of the nationwide Day of Action — organized by 50501-50 Protests 50 States 1 Movement — urging citizens to contact lawmakers and attend town halls. WGRZ

- ➤ UB undergraduate & graduate students help out at the Seneca-Babcock Community Association’s weekly food pantry to expand free health services for underserved Buffalo residents. They will host a free school and sports physical event on Sept 6 and recently debuted the Health on Wheels mobile clinic on Aug 20. The Buffalo News

- ➤ Richard and Patrick McNamara, owners of a Clarence contracting firm, are seeking city approval to convert an old industrial site on Main into Diamond Lofts, a $50 million apartment complex that will renovate a seven-story warehouse and add a five-story building with 174 apartments—pending variances from the Zoning Board of Appeals. If approved, construction will begin in May 2026 and finish by May 2027. The Buffalo News
