  • Spectrum Health & Human Services was awarded $4 million that will be used to repair its Main Street headquarters after damage during the 2022 Christmas blizzard—this funding follows a $9 million state award; Price Rite gained market share to 2.17%, Level Financial’s Evan Loomis was named to a national board, and gas prices in Buffalo have risen to $3.21 per gallon.  WBEN

  • Through September 7, 2025, the Buffalo Police Department reported record-low crime numbers with a 45% decrease in homicides and 28% fewer shooting incidents—including zero homicides in August, a first in 40 years.  ABC 7

  • Sarah Bonk says Buffalo State helped her start her career when an internship gave her the courage to ask for her dream job and become the Commissioner for Mental Health for Erie County—she credited hands-on learning and open faculty support for teaching her key skills in resource planning and service coordination.  Buffalo State University

  • Erie County jails continue to house roughly 150 extra state inmates each day as the slow state transfers that started in May leave local facilities facing increased costs for food, medical care, and transportation—Sheriff John Garcia warns that these ongoing burdens may force taxpayers to cover expenses not fully reimbursed by the state.  The Buffalo News

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 90% of Mercy Hospital workers voted to authorize a strike if union talks on expanded benefits and safe staffing levels stall. They have not planned to strike immediately and must give a 10-day notice before walking out—while negotiations continue with Catholic Health.  WGRZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh defended Lamar Jackson after a fan shoved him following a touchdown pass in the season opener against Buffalo—stadium security ejected and banned the fan indefinitely.  WBEN
  • Bills beat the Ravens 41-40 in the season opener after coming back from a 15-point deficit with about 8 minutes left; some fans left early while others stayed and cheered the historic win. Bills quarterback Josh Allen urged fans to keep their faith in the team, and supporters continue celebrating the remarkable comeback.  ABC 7
  • Last Sunday night, the Bills held their season opener against the Ravens at Highmark Stadium where an eight-minute drone show wowed fans as 500 drones formed Bills-themed shapes at halftime. The team won 41-40 after scoring two touchdowns and a field goal to overcome a 15-point deficit.  WGRZ
