  • On September 11, volunteers, servicemembers and business leaders restored historic naval ships at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park to honor the 2,977 lives lost on 9/11—Rear Admiral Robert Wirth delivered the keynote speech and explained how steel recovered from the Twin Towers now forms the USS New York’s bow.  WBFO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rich Products Corp is expanding its Niagara Street campus by buying the historic Curtiss Malt House from a cash-strapped developer and relocating its Roar Logistics headquarters from Exchange Street to the renovated Oliver Gear building—this move is part of a broader plan with over $2 million set aside to preserve the century-old property. The 33,000-square-foot Roar space will be fixed up over the next 12 to 18 months to support its growing operations.  The Buffalo News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buffalo State College dorms lost hot water for a week due to a leak that affected many buildings—university officials say they expect full repairs later today. Students report long lines at portable shower trailers with few working showers.  WGRZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New federal rules require wind and solar projects in western New York to begin construction by July 4 to qualify for tax credits—lawyers say a shortage of workers may force many projects to pause, which could cut host town payments, though the Heritage Wind project in Orleans County still plans to start in early 2026.  WBFO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Buffalo Comptroller Barbara Miller-Williams defended her decision not to issue most of the $110M in bonds approved by the Common Council, saying that keeping within the debt cap protects the city's financial integrity—she faces a lawsuit from Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon and Councilmember Mitch Nowakowski with oral arguments set for Sept. 22.  WBFO

  • Ashley Snowden from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute said that 9/11 first responders still show cancer cases 24 years later due to toxic exposures and a lack of proper gear during the cleanup—many cases involve non-melanoma skin, prostate, and breast cancers. She stressed that early detection through programs like the World Trade Center Health Program is key to treatment.  WBEN
  • Kaleida Health announced that it will close the Millard Fillmore Surgery Center in Amherst on Oct. 1 due to pending federal funding cuts and lower patient volume—32 employees will be helped with job placements while physicians continue serving patients at other facilities.  The Buffalo News

  • Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson avoided NFL discipline after a Bills fan shoved DeAndre Hopkins' helmet and then his own during a touchdown celebration Sunday night at Highmark Stadium—NFL officials confirmed the club resolved the matter with no further action while banning the fan from NFL events.  WGRZ
  • Ed Oliver did not practice Thursday because he was sidelined with an ankle injury even though he appeared fine at Wednesday's press conference—he is among six players listed as limited on the injury report.  WGRZ
