  • Buffalo’s 130th Annual YMCA Turkey Trot is scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, November 27 when an 8K race will run from Delaware Avenue at Tacoma Avenue to finish near the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. Participants are encouraged to donate non-perishable food and wear creative costumes as winners are announced before the race begins—adding to the festive spirit.  WGRZ
  • The Buffalo Zoo—partnered with Binder Park Zoo—welcomed its second female red panda cub from Michigan on Friday. The cub made its public debut from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the ambassador animal exhibit near the Diversity Hallway and now serves as a companion for the cub born on June 15.  ABC 7

  • Twenty candidates are competing for 12 seats on the undergraduate SA Senate for the upcoming year—candidates from six parties and three independents are in the race—and voting runs from 9:00 a.m. Sept. 15 to 4:00 p.m. Sept. 19 on UB Linked.  The Spectrum
  • A leak has left 650 Buffalo State students without hot water in dorms on Elmwood Avenue for over a week. The affected students live in the Student Apartment Complex—only about 500 residents still receive hot water.  The Buffalo News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forest Lawn Cemetery is working with state officials to reduce its growing deer population—an effort aimed at curbing malnutrition, injuries and harm to trees and wildlife habitat, while some community members question if removal is the best solution.  WGRZ

  • The Village of Hamburg received $1.4M in state funds to renovate its youth center—Mayor Thomas Tallman said the money will be spent wisely to benefit the village.  The Buffalo News

  • County officials gathered outside the Rath Building yesterday during Suicide Prevention Month to raise a Flag of Hope and bring attention to U.S. suicide rates that have neared 70-year record highs since 2022—Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gail Burstein said checking in on one another can help foster human connection.  WBFO

  • Seneca Gaming Corp. purchased the South Park property in downtown Buffalo to expand its casino by shifting its back-office functions to new locations—freeing up more space for gambling.  The Buffalo News

  • Wegmans is the latest founding partner of the Bills and has gained naming rights for the training camp — it remains the Official Tailgate Headquarters as the team builds its new stadium.  The Buffalo News
  • Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said defensive tackle Ed Oliver will miss the game on Sunday at 1 p.m. due to a practice injury — the coach added that backup players will have a chance to step up while no return timeline has been set.  WGRZ
