  • The Western New York Riding Lions hosted about 200 bikers—raising funds for Mercy Flight in a charity ride held this weekend.  WGRZ
  • Today, Western New York bikers held an all-day charity ride at Mercy Flight’s base at the Buffalo Airport, raising over $63,000 in four years to support air ambulance services. The ride ended with a bike parade at the Wendelville Volunteer Fire Company in North Tonawanda — a community event that helps keep Mercy Flight operational.  WGRZ
  • The Buffalo Zoo welcomed a new female red panda cub from a Michigan facility, born in June, to serve as a companion for the male cub that arrived last week—zoo staff said the pair will learn natural behaviors together while on display. Visitors can see the cubs in the exhibit and expect their names to be shared soon on social media.  WGRZ

CRIME NEWS

  • Mandella Market fired the employees involved in Tuesday's alleged assault of a Black woman at its Broadway and Jefferson location and said future workers would undergo conflict resolution training—actions taken after community protests demanded accountability.  WBFO

CULTURE NEWS

  • One summer evening, children and teens from the Love Supreme School of Music performed improvised jazz solos on an outdoor stage in Larkinville while local fans watched food trucks and gathered nearby. The free program, inspired by Pappy Martin’s legacy and Coltrane’s work, shows each student that their own voice matters — a lesson that guides every performance.  The Buffalo News

  • A Western New York teacher is on leave after posting inappropriate social media comments about Charlie Kirk’s death — school officials are reviewing the incident.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Volunteer fire companies in Cheektowaga received a $240,000 grant for new radio and fire suppression systems to fight electric car battery fires—announced Saturday by U.S. Rep. Tim Kennedy.  WGRZ
  • The New York State Thruway Authority announced that a lane on I-190 northbound between Exits 14 and 15 will be closed on Sep. 16 and 17 for surface treatment to improve the road. Crews will work from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days—drivers are advised to plan alternative routes as significant delays are expected.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Millard Fillmore Surgery Center will close on Oct. 1 due to changes in funding and reimbursement, and Kaleida Health said it will assist the 32 affected employees while patients transition to other care facilities. Physicians will continue to perform surgeries at nearby hospitals and outpatient centers.  Spectrum News
  • Vicora Inc. tested its new Vibrato catheter at The Rookery Labs on Northland Corridor in Buffalo—its vibrating polymer tip broke up blood clots during a late August simulation. The company raised $3.6 million and will begin the FDA process in early 2026 while planning a human study next year.  The Buffalo News

  • The Bills are playing the Jets today after a huge comeback win over the Ravens, and the team will try to overcome weak run defense + the Jets feature a mobile quarterback and a strong rushing attack.  Spectrum News
  • The Buffalo Bills moved linebacker Keonta Jenkins and defensive tackle Zion Logue from the practice squad to the active roster for today's game against the Jets at the Meadowlands—Logue comes in for injured Ed Oliver while Jenkins may play as linebacker Shaq Thompson is questionable.  WGRZ
