COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Buffalo PAL's Executive Director Nekia Kemp brings kids and police together using sports and school programs — she works to build trust and strengthen local ties.  WGRZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buffalo’s Lenox Hotel will convert its shuttered Lenox Grill into a spa and yoga studio next year with room and furniture upgrades planned for January and February. Park School of Buffalo launched its final fundraising phase to raise over $15 million for facility improvements — and Cheektowaga’s Natrion began production of its lithium battery separator, planning to hire 19 workers.  WBEN
  • Filled with Love Buffalo, a European market and café started by Ukrainian refugee Karina Krantz, has moved to a new space at 962 Maple Road in Williamsville where it offers local, organic and European foods and drinks. It began in Pendleton last year and donates proceeds to a local nonprofit supporting refugees and immigrants—community feedback has been very positive.  ABC 7
  • Buffalo Niagara International Airport ranked third in JD Power’s North America study on medium airports with a customer satisfaction score of 698 — three points above Jacksonville International Airport, and only Ontario and Indianapolis ranked higher. Pascal Cohen from NFTA said planned food and art upgrades will soon improve the travel experience for locals and Canadians.  WBEN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buffalo Catholic Schools have announced plans to add armed security guards to all 29 elementary schools for extra protection following concerns from a recent shooting in Minneapolis — Superintendent Joleen Dimitroff noted that principals have already completed emergency response training and that local law enforcement is being consulted as part of a long-term safety commitment.  WBEN
  • UB president Satish Tripathi announced he will step down next July after a 15-year term that transformed programs and built major projects—he will join the faculty next fall. An international search for the next president will begin this fall with community input guiding the process.  The Spectrum
  • Buffalo State students have been without hot water for about two weeks at Moore Complex and Towers; officials say the aging infrastructure worsened when repairs were attempted. Interim President Bonita Durand said hot water will return early next week—officials plan to post daily updates and boost patrols around alternative shower areas.  ABC 7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The DEC filed a lawsuit against the Buffalo Sewer Authority this week—hoping to give the agency more time to fix a raw sewage issue that is harming local waterways. The suit may allow extra time to repair the sewage control plan and protect the environment.  The Buffalo News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NYSDOT announced on Wednesday that it is restarting the Kensington Expressway project in Buffalo and will search nationwide for a new project director as part of its Queen City Forward initiative—designed to gather community input starting in October. Rich Fontana said the new plan will include an environmental impact study and traffic study to assess where 75,000 cars a day would go if the expressway is filled in.  WBEN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Patients and providers are rallying against Kaleida Health’s planned closures of the DeGraff Medical Park outpatient therapy center and a similar Amherst facility due to financial impacts from the Big Beautiful Bill — the closures scheduled for November will displace patients and 30 specialized workers — as they fear losing critical rehab care for stroke and cancer survivors.  WBFO

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tickets to see the Bills at Highmark Stadium are very expensive this season as fans try to catch their final games at the 53-year-old venue—prices for even the cheapest seats exceed $250 because demand is high. Prices will likely rise later in the season for games like the one against Kansas City as ticket availability grows even scarcer.  The Buffalo News
  • The Buffalo Bulls pulled off a last-minute win over Kent State (31-28) and improved their record (2-1 overall, 1-0 MAC). Ta’Quan Roberson threw three touchdowns as the team will host the Troy Trojans on September 20 at 3:30 p.m.  The Spectrum
  • Buffalo Bills will wear blue pants, blue jerseys, and a white helmet as they host the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium tonight for their second primetime game. The game starts at 8:15 p.m. and the team is 1-0 with this look—matching last season's success with all-blue uniforms.  WGRZ
