- ➤ Eleven local restaurants competed in Meatball Street Brawl to crown Buffalo's best meatball+ proceeds will benefit local charities. WGRZ
- ➤ Mourners gathered on Sunday in Niagara Falls to honor Charlie Kirk—Turning Point USA CEO assassinated in Utah on Sept. 10—with a local vigil and a walk across Rainbow Bridge that joined Canadians in remembrance. The event allowed residents to pay tribute locally since they could not attend Kirk’s funeral in Arizona. WGRZ
- ➤ Volunteers restored grave markers at Mount Calvary cemetery in Cheektowaga to honor those who served in the armed forces—preserving an important part of local history. WGRZ

- ➤ The Erie Canal is the focus of a World Canals Conference in Buffalo that began on Sunday and will continue through Thursday. Experts from Scotland—John Paterson and Richard Millar—discussed plans to preserve and revitalize the waterway that changed trade and travel 200 years ago. WBFO
- ➤ A replica of the original boat — Seneca Chief — will begin a 33-day voyage this Wednesday to celebrate the Erie Canal bicentennial. WGRZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Assemblyman Angelo Morinello raised concerns last week after he found a staircase and platform blocking the view at Niagara Falls State Park — the structure was removed on Sept. 19 and an amended design is planned as work on the Crow’s Nest extension continues. WBEN
- ➤ Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said Buffalo must do more to celebrate the Erie Canal's 200th anniversary and has directed local agencies to plan extra events—such as children’s programs and mule displays—to honor the city's history. Although several regional celebrations are scheduled, Poloncarz believes Buffalo deserves a stronger tribute to its heritage. The Buffalo News

- ➤ Former Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick lingered at Highmark Stadium after the Dolphins game as he recalled his career and noted this was probably his last visit before the team moves to a new stadium—he felt more part of the Bills than ever before and celebrated the traditions that bind the fans. The Buffalo News
- ➤ Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel questioned the NFL ruling after Bills quarterback Josh Allen was credited with a fumble during a kneel-down at Highmark Stadium Thursday night—he said he saw Allen toss the ball to a referee instead of fully kneeling—and stated that he will discuss the play further with league officials. The NFL ruled the play dead at the Bills’ 28-yard line, a decision McDaniel believes ended a potential scoring opportunity. WGRZ
